West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination board is going to conduct the WBJEE 2014 Engineering & Medical exam for admission across the state. Previous year the Medical exam of the state has been thrashed from WBJEE for NEET. But after the announcement of Supreme Court in cancellation of NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), State Health department is deciding to conduct the Medical exam for the academic session 2014-15.
Earlier, WBJEE board had conducted the WBJEE entrance exam for Medical, Engineering, Architecture courses admissions across the state. Then WBJEE had different criteria and Exam pattern. Students have to scored a minimum of 45% in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and /mathematics for Engineering aspirants and Biology instead of Maths for medical aspirants. This law intended that students who had studied subjects like computer science, mechanics or biotechnology did not stand a chance to get a seat. But, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had recently proposed that eligibility for admissions to the engineering and medical courses could include students who have studied subjects like computer science, mechanics or biotechnology instead of chemistry in their 10+2.
The Exam Pattern of WBJEE was Mathematics (100), Physics & Chemistry (50 + 50), and Biology (100). The exam was held on the same day for all the subjects. Time given to the students for these subjects was three hours – one and half hour for each subject. Maths being a 100 mark paper was to be solved in two hours. Since medical students had to take the NEET 2013, the weightage for physics and chemistry in WBJEE 2013 was increased from 50 marks to 75 each and separated into two papers unlike 2012 when the two subjects were combined in one paper of 100 marks. Now for Medical stream if Biology subject is re-introduced, then the board will change the structure / pattern of the examination from 2014.
So, there will be few changes in eligibility criteria and Exam Pattern. A senior official of the WBJEE board said, “If the medical examination returns to the state, the number of centers will increase uniformly and candidates will not have to Travel to distant places. The question papers, too, will be set in Bengali and it will not be a word-to-word translation of English. The questions will be based on the Higher Secondary syllabus of Biology.”
However, there is no announcement for New Pattern and Criteria form Official. Keep eyes on us as soon as we get new information about WBJEE 2014 we will update it.
